OUR WHY

Grief doesn’t end
their story.
Love helps write
the next chapter.

Every child deserves someone to walk beside them through grief.

Sunshine Thru the Rain is a nonprofit dedicated to children who have lost one or both parents. We create welcoming spaces where children can share experiences, connect with others who understand, and make new memories.

Sometimes support looks like a conversation. Sometimes it looks like a day outdoors, a shared adventure, or the first laugh a child didn’t think they could have.

WHAT WE DO

Connection. New memories.
Reasons to smile again.

After losing a parent, a child needs more than a busy calendar. They need people who understand, a place to belong, and moments that remind them joy is still possible.

Children and officers with shopping carts full of holiday gifts at Sunshine Thru the Rain’s Shop With a Cop

A LITTLE HOLIDAY MAGIC. A LOT OF HEART.

Shop With a Cop

When a parent is missing, the holidays can feel different. Shop With a Cop brings children together with caring law enforcement officers for a holiday shopping experience filled with connection, encouragement, and moments of joy.

It’s about more than the gifts in a cart. It’s time spent together, a friendly face, and the feeling that a whole community is showing up for you.

SUNSHINE BEYOND THE HOLIDAYS

We keep showing up, all year long.

Outings & shared adventures

From creative activities to outdoor fun, shared experiences give children opportunities to try something new, build confidence, and enjoy being kids.

Friendships with children who understand

Meeting other children who have lost a parent helps them feel less alone. They can connect through play, conversation, and simply spending time together.

A welcoming circle for families

We offer space to express feelings, share experiences, and find encouragement as families navigate life after loss. There’s room for laughter, tears, and everything in between.

No child should have to face grief alone. Help us create the next outing, the next friendship, and the next reason to smile.

A FAMILY’S EXPERIENCE

“This was the missing piece for which I had been looking. She’s not alone.”

— A parent sharing her family’s experience on our original website

After losing her father, a young girl had activities and caring people around her. What she was missing was a connection with other children who understood her loss. Her family found that connection through Sunshine Thru the Rain.
